The Inside Scoop – Years of hard work equal wonderful accomplishments

Coming from different walks of life, each of our staff members and volunteers at Broadview brings a unique set of backgrounds and accomplishments to their work. When our Maintenance and Kitchen Assistant, Erik Polk, began working at Broadview in March of this year, he asked his colleagues more about themselves and learned a very interesting fact…between the four members of our kitchen staff, over 100 years of food service experience resides!

Saul Hernandez, Kitchen Supervisor and head chef, boasts the second longest term at 30-plus years. Erik, who formerly worked at Pasadena College, follows with 15 years of experience, and Saul’s assistant, Maria Hernandez, knocks the group beyond 50 with over 10 years of experience. So, where do the other 40-plus years of food service employment come from? Mary Martinez, our Relief Cook, but formerly the manager of a school district cafeteria! Of course, Erik was amazed to learn that Saul and Maria’s careers have been entirely here at Broadview. Isn’t that magnificent dedication?

Our kitchen staff members certainly have a lot of meals under their belts, and we are all very grateful for their hard work as well as the many delicious meals prepared. Thank you Saul, Maria, Mary, and Erik!

We are also thrilled to share with you that two of our Christian Science nurses recently became listed in The Christian Science Journal while our very own board Vice President, George Birdsong, is now advertising as a Christian Science practitioner in The Christian Science Journal. We are very delighted for them and their great accomplishments.
