The Inside Scoop – Meet Ben Egwuenu

Hi there! My name is Chukwuka Ben Egwuenu, and I am from Lagos, Nigeria. As of May 2016, I am a recent graduate from Principia College where I studied Mass Communication and Graphic Design. Now, I am a current employee at Broadview! I enjoyed my Principia experience. I met some amazing people from all over the world; was on the college soccer team my freshman year and a Graphic Designer on the student-run bi-monthly magazine called The Pilot Magazine; and I got the opportunity to study abroad in Uruguay.

Until I graduated from Principia, I had been an international student in the U.S. for 12 years. I first came to the U.S. when I was 10 years old and attended a boarding school in Elgin, Illinois called Fox River Country Day School. My first three years in the U.S. was a roller coaster of emotions and wonderful experiences; there were a lot of first experiences for me such as being on a plane, being away from my family and seeing them only every two years during the summer, riding a roller coaster, eating all sorts of “American” foods and many other things that I can now say I love about American culture.

After attending the boarding school in Elgin, I then ventured to Principia High School in St. Louis Missouri where I also became a boarding student. My experience at Principia High School really shaped me into the person I am today. The people I call my best friends came from the school, and my experiences in class as well as on the soccer and basketball teams really taught me a lot about the kind of person I strive to be and how to work well with others. My growth as a Christian Scientist also developed while in high school, and I learned a lot of valuable lessons.

When it came time to choose where to go to college, choosing Principia College was a no-brainer! It was an amazing four years.

I started at Broadview as a Marketing and Communications Intern in August (after spending a few weeks as a camp counselor at CedarS CampS). It’s been an amazing learning experience, as well, and I am very grateful to have been offered a full-time position! I am now an Administrative Assistant helping both the Development Office and the Christian Science Nursing Department.

Every experience I’ve had since arriving in the U.S. has been a blessing and has contributed to making me the person I am today, and I am ever so grateful to everyone I have met along the way. The next time you are at Broadview, please stop by to say “hi”!
