The Inside Scoop – Meet Haley Chichester

Hello all! It’s been a pleasure working as part of the Broadview family these last two weeks, and I’m very much looking forward to the many months to come! Before becoming a member of the Development Office, I enjoyed working at a local food market in Ashland, Oregon (mostly because of the endless food samples –who wouldn’t love that?!).

Southern Oregon is beautiful this time of year. I’ll definitely miss the fresh air and unlimited outdoor activities – hiking, ice skating, roasting marshmallows, etc. But believe me, I have no complaints about winter in California – I’ll take this happy sunshine (and rain…lots of rain) over icy snow any day! It’s also been so much fun exploring Los Angeles. I’m currently putting together a list of things to do/see, and places to eat, so if you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear them!

An evening cruise with friends along La Seine river in Paris. I’m the one taking the photo on the bottom right!

My most recent adventure prior to coming to Broadview was last August, when I took a month-long trip through nine countries in Europe – Greece, Italy, Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Spain. I went with a relatively large group of absolute strangers, but by the end of the month, I’d made forty life-long friends.

My love of travel could be attributed to the way I was raised. Growing up in Kuwait and Kazakhstan, you can imagine I didn’t have what one might consider a ‘normal’ or ‘traditional’ childhood. I didn’t move to the United States until I was a sophomore in high school, when my sisters and I began boarding at Principia Upper School. Last May, I graduated from Principia College with a B.A. in Mass Communication, and a minor in Studio Art. I’ve really enjoyed practicing my studies in the professional world and hope to do more work with painting and graphic design in the future.

Christian Science has been part of my life since childhood. My parents are
both lifelong Scientists and raised me with a strong spiritual foundation. There were no Christian Science churches in Kuwait or Kazakhstan, so my parents would hold family church and Sunday school services in our living room. My sisters and I spent many summers at Cedars Camps in Missouri as well as Adventure Unlimited in Colorado.

Now, I’m so very excited to be a part of the Broadview family and am also looking forward to connecting with the Christian Science community in the area. Thanks for taking the time to get to know me! Please feel free to stop by my office (shared with Kendall Tuchkova) and say hello, or to reach out with any comments or questions. I’d love to hear from you!
