Each room has a private telephone, so the patient may communicate with his or her practitioner in a confidential manner. A gracious and comfortable library is available for quiet study. It includes a full complement of reference materials as well as a computer with the Concord program and Found Volumes.
Why Christian Science Nursing is Important and Merits Support
Christian Science nursing is an intrinsic part of the church. Mrs. Eddy provided for Christian Science nurses in the Church Manual. We support the concept of Christian Science nursing as we individually express the Christian Science nursing throught and qualities in our lives.
All church members are blessed by participating in Christian Science nursing. We participate in the idea of Christian Science nursing when we recognize the blessings of Christian Science nursing, when we Christian Science nurse ourselves and others, when we appreciate the Christian Science nurses we meet and know, when we encourage Christian Scientists to become Christian Science nurses, and when we support this activity through our prayers and contributions.
Christian Science nursing is valuable because in many cases Christian Science healing is directly supported by the care of a Christian Science nurse. Many have either called on a Christian Science nurse or know someone who has. This might have been a visiting Christian Science nurse, a private duty Christian Science nurse, or a Christian Science nurse in a facility. That care was undoubtedly an important aspect of nurturing the healing. This means that more Christian Science nurses, better Christian Science nursing, and better Christian Science nursing facilities will result in more effective support and nurturing of patients as they seek healing.
Christian Science nursing facilities are valuable because it is often impractical to care for someone at home. The healing atmosphere provided by a facility such as Broadview is a key factor in realizing healing.
In 1905, Mrs. Eddy requested the establishmenbt of what she called "resorts" for the purpose of supporting healing. Although not acted on at that time, this early idea was the basis for the founding of Chestnut Hill and Arden Wood. In addition to providing a harmonious atmosphere where the sick receive expert care, facilities provide training for Christian Science nurses.
Christian Science nursing services offered by Broadview include:
Christian Science Nursing Care
This is the most acute or intensive level of care offered. This skilled Christian Science nursing care is provided only by Christian Science nurses who are highly trained and experienced and have met the standards required for listing in The Christian Science Journal. Care at this level qualifies for Medicare benefits.
Christian Science Care
This is a level of care that is of less intensity than Christian Science Nursing Care. It is sometimes called "light nursing." It is not necessary for the care to be provided by Journal-listed Christian Science nurses although all care provided will be overseen by one. This care does not qualify for Medicare coverage.
Outpatient Care
Patients who have a need that does not require a stay at the facility are welcome on an outpatient basis. Broadview provides for immediate, short term nursing care, such as bandaging at our facility. Although it is helpful to set up an appointment with our Christian Science nursing department in advance, we are also happy to answer calls for more immediate help. A Journal-listed Christian Science nurse is always on duty to meet or supervise the care of all in need.
Medicare
Broadview is a certified Medicare provider. Here is some helpful information for anyone who may be eligible for Medicare nursing coverage.
To insure that Medicare claims are paid without unnecessary delay, guests requiring Medicare nursing need to do the following when being admitted:
Advance Health Care Directive (AHCD)
We strongly advise that every adult have an advance health care directive prepared and signed. An AHCD gives another individual permission to make health care decisions for a person in case that person is incapacitated and unable to make decisions for himself. It also specifies the kind of treatment and care the person wants, especially if the person is a Christian Scientist and does not want medical care. It is very important when anyone comes to Broadview for Christian Science nursing care, that an authorized person is available to sign the election form. Medicare will not pay for care without a signed and notarized election form in place.
An attorney can help you prepare one. If you would like more information, please call Broadview at (323) 221-9174.
