Solar Panel Array Goes Live!

October 2011

After a long wait, Broadview's solar panel project has reached completion. The panels, which will provide 93 percent of Broadview's electrical needs is currently, producing about 1,000 kilowatt hours per day, which will increase in the summer. This system is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 6400 tons over 25 years!

The panels have already been a draw for two groups of students - a group of kids  from a local middle school and a small group from Occidental college.

Broadview's 2011 Annual Meeting a Hit!

October 2011

With an enthusiastic crowd, a wonderful program and delicious lunch, Broadview's 2011 Annual Meeting, Christian Healing Today, was a great success!

As guests arrived they were greeted by enthusiastic Broadview staff and hot beverages of their choice. Classical music played softly as people were guided along the new front park area to the garden where everyone took their seat.

The program started with lots of wonderful information from Broadview including reports from the Board of Directors, the Director of Christian Science Nursing, the Director of Christian Science Nursing Development (who shared information on training and field service), the Administrator of High Haven Visiting Christian Science Nurse Service as well as a financial report. There was also a slideshow of photographs taken throughout the year at Broadview set to music.

Early in the program, the branch church representatives were recognized, as were vendors who helped Broadview with a few of its major projects in the last year - the solar panels and the front park area.

Two special segments finished out the first portion of the program - a video featuring Christian Science Nursing students sharing their experiences and a sharing of patient testimonies.

After a standing break the keynote speaker, Marjorie Dagnall, C.S., delivered her talk, Christian Healing Today. After her inspirational talk, the program closed and everyone moved over to tables around the fountain and grounds for lunch.

Live music filled the air as people ate sandwiches with chips and veggies. Most people also enjoyed the ever-popular 'ice cream parlor' Broadview creates each year in the shelter which features 9 flavors of ice cream and sorbet and all the toppings for a great sundae.

It was truly a lovely event and thanks to all those who came out!

Christine Stephens

Director of Christian Science Nursing

Lynne Scheiern

Director of Christian Science Nursing Development

Broadview's New Director of Christian Science Nursing

We have just concluded a vibrant and rewarding search for our new Director of Christian Science Nursing. From the beginning, we felt that this process could be a blessing for Christian Science nursing, both at Broadview and elsewhere, and our approach resonated with many from our local community and from afar. We were privileged to witness this unselfed love.

We asked each candidate to send a resume and responses to a series of questions. They shared wonderful, inspiring demonstrations of Christian Science and a heartfelt commitment to healing and to Christian Science nursing. Each candidate we interviewed expressed gratitude for the spiritual growth which came from their own prayerful consideration of this position. Our movement and Christian Science nursing are truly blessed to have so many consecrated healers caring for mankind every day.

We have asked Christine Stephens to be our new Director of Christian Science Nursing. Christine has advertised in The Christian Science Journal for 11 years. She is an exceptional Christian Science nurse and for more than 13 years has mentored other nurses. She has taught a Basic and Advanced Food Class during that same period. Her love of Christian Science nursing and skills as a chef and baker have led her to teach this class for other facilities as well. Christine has five years experience as Assistant Director of Christian Science Nursing at Broadview. In addition to a keen interest in baking (especially very tasty desserts) she and her husband, Rolland, enjoy frequent weekend trips to their second home on Big Bear Lake.

We are also pleased to announce that Lynne Scheiern will have expanded responsibilities for Broadview and she will be our new Director of Christian Science Nursing Development. Lynne will continue to conduct our student training school. She will also be responsible for developing programs to support experienced Christian Science nurses as well as for programs to expand the awareness and appreciation of Christian Science nursing in our region. Lynne has advertised in The Christian Science Journal since 1993. She has been the Christian Science nurse on 60 baby cases, three of which are grandchildren for Lynne and her husband Steve.
